Closed-loop architecture for distributed collaborative adaptive sensing of the atmosphere: meteorological command and control
نویسندگان
چکیده
Distributed collaborative adaptive sensing (DCAS) of the atmosphere is a new paradigm for detecting and predicting hazardous weather using a dense network of short-range, low-powered radars to sense the lowest few kilometers of the earth’s atmosphere. DCAS systems are collaborative in that the beams from multiple radars are actively coordinated in a sense-and-respond manner to achieve greater sensitivity, precision, and resolution than possible with a single radar; DCAS systems are adaptive in that the radars and their associated computing and communications infrastructure are dynamically reconfigured in response to changing weather conditions and enduser needs. This paper describes an end-to-end DCAS architecture and evaluates the performance of the system in an operational testbed with actual weather events and end-user considerations driving the system. Our results demonstrate how the architecture is capable of real-time data processing, optimization of radar control, and sensing of the atmosphere in a manner that maximizes end-user utility.

Meteorological Command & Control: Architecture and Performance Evaluation
Meteorological Command & Control is the software architecture that performs the main control loop of our radar sensor network in southwestern Oklahoma. In this control loop data is ingested from the radars, meteorological features are identified in this data, features are reported to end-users, and each radar's future scan strategy based on detected features and end-user requirements is determi...
متن کاملAn End-User-Responsive Sensor Network Architecture for Hazardous Weather Detection, Prediction and Response
We present an architecture for a class of systems that perform distributed, collaborative, adaptive sensing (DCAS) of the atmosphere. Since the goal of these DCAS systems is to sense the atmosphere when and where the user needs are greatest, end-users naturally play the central role in determining how system resources (sensor targeting, computation, communication) are deployed. We describe the ...
متن کاملAdaptive Distributed Consensus Control for a Class of Heterogeneous and Uncertain Nonlinear Multi-Agent Systems
This paper has been devoted to the design of a distributed consensus control for a class of uncertain nonlinear multi-agent systems in the strict-feedback form. The communication between the agents has been described by a directed graph. Radial-basis function neural networks have been used for the approximation of the uncertain and heterogeneous dynamics of the followers as well as the effect o...
متن کاملADAPTIVE FUZZY TRACKING CONTROL FOR A CLASS OF NONLINEAR SYSTEMS WITH UNKNOWN DISTRIBUTED TIME-VARYING DELAYS AND UNKNOWN CONTROL DIRECTIONS
In this paper, an adaptive fuzzy control scheme is proposed for a class of perturbed strict-feedback nonlinear systems with unknown discrete and distributed time-varying delays, and the proposed design method does not require a priori knowledge of the signs of the control gains.Based on the backstepping technique, the adaptive fuzzy controller is constructed. The main contributions of the paper...
متن کاملA Collaborative Stochastic Closed-loop Supply Chain Network Design for Tire Industry
Recent papers in the concept of Supply Chain Network Design (SCND) have seen a rapid development in applying the stochastic models to get closer to real-world applications. Regaring the special characteristics of each product, the stracture of SCND varies. In tire industry, the recycling and remanufacturing of scraped tires lead to design a closed-loop supply chain. This paper proposes a two-st...
